With reference to your telegram of the
15th, ultimo, and to previous correspondence with regard to
the proposed sale of land adjoining Kowloon Marine Lot No. 27
to the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Company for the construction
of a new Dock, I have the honour to inform you that at an
extraordinary general meeting of shareholders, held on the
8th. instant, the Company decided by a large majority not to
purchase the land in question and not to build a new Dock.

You will remember that on the 14th.
February, 1899, the Dock Company applied for an area of
726,082 Square Feet' coloured red on the tracing forwarded to
you under cover of my Despatch No. 249 of the 9th. July, 1901,
and that in his letter of the 5th. September, 1900, Mr. Gillies
applied for a further area of 613,050 Square Feet shown in
green on the tracing above referred to. Finally on the 13th.
August, 1902, Mr. Dixon applied for a further area of 17,395
Square Feet coloured yellow in the tracing enclosed in my

Despatch No. 392 of the 2nd. September, 1902. The total applica-
tion of the Dock Company was therefore for an area of
